A modern American Tavern focused on delivering warm hospitality, delicious food, and great drinks in a comfortable neighborhood setting in the heart of the Kansas City Crossroads Art District.  

Chef Derek Nacey and his wife Meghan Nacey opened Blvd Tavern in March 2015.  The Nacey’s goal in opening Blvd Tavern was to create a warm and comfortable neighborhood restaurant, focusing on excellent food and service, where everyone felt comfortable.  A Tavern, in the best sense of the word, is a local place for people to gather at a table for excellent food and drink.  

 

Blvd Tavern offers a rotating menu focusing on seasonal dishes, influenced by Midwestern, European, and Asian fare.  While dining at Blvd Tavern you can relax with family and friends while enjoying craft cocktails and beer, a carefully curated wine list, and delicious food.  

 

Chef Nacey is a Rochester, NY native who recalls that some of his favorite childhood memories are cooking with his mother.  Derek took this love of cooking and enrolled in the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY.  Upon graduation in October of 1999, Derek relocated to Kansas City where he worked as a Sous Chef at Fedora’s on the Country Club Plaza.  This is where he and Meghan first met.  Derek left Fedora’s to work at a newly opened restaurant in the KC Crossroads area, Zin, in June of 2000.  Derek has held the positions of Chef de Cuisine and Executive Chef in some of the finest restaurants in Kansas City: Café Allegro, Zin, and Starker’s Reserve.  

Prior to opening Blvd Tavern, Derek was the Corporate Executive Chef for Houlihan’s Restaurant Inc. where he developed and helped implement new menu items for the three restaurants he oversaw: Houlihan’s, Bristol, and j. gilbert’s wood-fired steaks.  

Meghan Nacey is a Midwest native hailing from “Little Sweden USA” Lindsborg, KS.  Meghan graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in Child Development, but quickly found her passion for the service industry after graduation.  Meghan's maternal grandparents owned and operated several hotels and restaurants in north central Missouri.  As a child, Meghan loved to 'go to work' with her grandparents and help, instilling into her a love of hospitality.  

Upon moving to Kansas City after graduating from college, Meghan began working at Fedoras Café on the Plaza.  This is where she met her future husband, Derek Nacey.  From Fedoras Meghan went on to work at some of the top restaurants in Kansas City: Morton’s of Chicago, La Bodega, Zin, and the Rieger, as well as working as a manager at Rm 39 in Midtown.  Meghan left Rm 39 to manage the espresso bar and handle store administration at Dean and Deluca in Leawood, Kansas.  

Opening a restaurant of his own has been a dream of Derek’s since he began his culinary career.  Both he and Meghan were excited to get this opportunity in the KC Crossroads area and are excited for you to come dine with them at Blvd Tavern!
